A mantra is an aid to meditation. It does not have to be spoken out loud – you can repeat it in your mind to keep your focus. You can focus within at your heart, below your heart above your belly, or you can focus on your breath. These are my favorites, courtesy Deepak Chopra. Sanskit Mantras – their meaning in English
Note: if pronunciation is not in parenthesis, word is pronounced with accent on the last syllable
“a” is pronounced “au”
Om – honors our connection to the Universe
Sham – connects us to our wisdom and inner knowing (third eye chakrah, intuition)
Yum – facilitates deeper connections (heart chakrah)
Ram – everything I desire is in me (energy chakrah at the solar plexis)
Vam – connects us to our love for ourselves and others
Ham – connects us to our creativity
Lam – allows us to feel grounded, secure, and serene (root chakrah at base of spine)
So Hum – I am
Dharma Hum – my life has meaning and purpose
Sahasrara(no accent on any particular syllable) Im (eem) – I am pure awareness
Sat, Chit, Ananda – truth, pure being, bliss
Aham Brahmasmi – the core of my being is the ultimate reality, the root and ground of the Universe, the source of all that exists
Om Ritam Namah – my intentions and desires are in alignment with and supported by the Universe
Om Bhavam Namah – I am absolute existence, a field of all possibilities
Om Anandam Namah – my actions are blissfully free from attachment to outcome
Om Vardhanam Namah – nourish the Universe and the Universe nourishes me
Tat Tuam(twam) Asi – I see myself in the other and the other in me
Om Varunam Namah – my life is in harmony with cosmic law
Om Daksham Namah – I achieve maximal benefit with minimal effort
Sampriya Hum – I am complete contentment
